A Public Hearing has been set for Thursday, Aug. 20, at 6:00 p.m. It will be held at the Galion Elks Lodge, 212 Harding Way East (parking and entrance are at the rear of the building). The purpose of the hearing is to discuss a proposed building demolition located near a property in which you own. Project details will be provided, and residents are allowed to issue comments and ask questions.
Under COVID-19 guidelines, face coverings are required to be worn unless you have a medical condition. Social distancing will be practiced. The hearing will be live broadcast for those who are unable to attend in person. For information on how to access the hearing, please contact the City of Galion at 419-468-1857, or click this link on the date and time of the meeting (if you are prompted for a pass code, it is 751791).
The proposed project is located at 224 Harding Way East, a vacant commercial building. The property owner intends to demolish the entire structure, fill in the basement, and place gravel on top.
The demolition will be funded through a combination of private funds from the property owner, and the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. The City of Galion has $30,000 in leftover CDBG funds from a program cycle awarded several years ago. Funding must still be spent on projects which meet one of three National Objectives: benefit to low- and moderate-income persons, prevent or eliminate slum and blight, or meet other community development needs which pose an immediate threat to the health or welfare of the community.
The public may submit comments and complaints by using this form and returning it by Thursday, September 10. Comment forms must be returned to:
