The 2017 residential street paving projects in Galion are set to be put out to bid. City Council unanimously approved legislation at its July 25 meeting to authorize the bidding.
The streets scheduled to get paved are as follows:
West Parson Street (South Market Street to South Boston Street)
Fairview Avenue (Hetrick Drive north to city limits)
Riblet Street (Harding Way East to Church Street)
Riblet Street (Church Street to Primrose Street)
North Washington Street (Church Street to Payne Avenue)
Summit Street (North Union Street to Park Avenue)
Liberty Street (Harding Way East to Payne Avenue)
Also included in the bid is patching work on North Market Street (Public Square to Church Street), North Union Street (Harding Way East to Erie Street), and Walker Street (North Union Street to North Market Street).
The total cost is estimated to be $258,319. Part of the funding comes from the license plate tax paid by drivers who live in Galion. The goal is to have paving completed by late September.
Additionally, Mayor Tom O’Leary said remaining preventative maintenance funds will be used for crack sealing on Timberlane Drive. He also provided an update on the Portland Way North reconstruction project: “The contractor is getting the base prepped this week and will begin pouring on Monday. If things go right, we’ll be done by the end of next week.”
