At 5:23 p.m. on Friday, June 9, the Galion Fire Department was dispatched to 81 Cedargate Court for a report of a structure fire. Upon arrival crews found a multifamily dwelling with moderate smoke and fire involvement on the end apartment. 

One female, Sherry Barker, 65, was trapped in the fire and subsequently died on scene. The Crawford County Coroner’s office and The State of Ohio Fire Marshalls office was called in to assist in the investigation which at this point remains undetermined. 

Moderate damage was sustained to that one apartment with preliminary estimates being $5,000 in property and $4,000 in content damage.  The victim was transported to Lucas County for an autopsy.
