The City hauled nearly 65 tons of household waste to the county landfill as a result of the community-wide Clean Up Day held June 17.

During Clean Up Day, members from Galion Gracepoint and other volunteers assisted residents who requested help with cleaning up yards and moving household waste to the curb. There were also eight, 40-yard dumpsters placed beside the city building that day for residents to drop off junk and old furniture. 21 tons of waste were collected in the dumpsters

Over the following two weeks, the Galion Service Department hit every street in town for curbside pickup. A total of 64.71 tons of waste and 66 mattresses was collected. Including the material put in the dumpsters on June 17, the total waste collected was 85.71 tons.

Yard waste items such as branches and leaves were collected separately and hauled to the Taylor Road Composting Facility. Data on this material was not collected.

Thank you to Gracepoint and all of the Clean Up Day volunteers for helping Galion residents to make their homes and yards more presentable, or to just get caught up on yard work. And special thanks to the Service Department for doing the curbside pickup.
