[ARCHIVED] Council Funds Depot Repairs

3

City Council authorized appropriations for repair work at the Big Four Depot during its Aug. 28 meeting. A total of $121,000 was earmarked for a project to replace and/or repair the 80 windows on the building, as well as make roof repairs. Mayor Tom O'Leary explained the goal is to stabilize the exterior shell of the building.

As outlined in Ord. 2018-52, funding for the project came from $72,000 in existing funds from the Revolving Loan Fund and unspent CDBG funds from a previous grant cycle, as well as $49,000 within the Mayor’s budget.

In addition to Depot funding, the same ordinance also appropriated a $36,000 local match for a FEMA grant, and made an allocation correction for the Brandt Road Infrastructure project by transferring $46,700 from the Storm Water Fund to the Street Fund.

Council also authorized bidding for a restroom building to be located on the Depot property. The amount is not to exceed $102,000. The city will use $70,000 in grant funds from the Egbert Freese Foundation and $19,777 in NatureWorks funds, with the remainder of the cost to be covered by the city.

Ord. 2018-46 transferred $15,000 from the Convention and Visitors Bureau Fund to an expense fund in order to pay Experience Galion.

Res. 2018-8 appointed Cliff Murphy as the prosecuting attorney for the city. David Keller currently serves in this position, but Law Director Thomas Palmer explained he will be out for medical reasons and there is a jury trial scheduled soon. Murphy will serve as prosecutor for this trial only.
