Property owners along the Portland Way North corridor received letters last week regarding an upcoming roadway project. The City of Galion and the Ohio Department of Transportation are proposing to widen approximately 1.2 miles of Portland Way (State Route 598) from Carter Drive to just north of Brandt Road to accommodate a center turn lane.
Residents and drivers in this area should expect to see work crews from the engineering firm GPD Group on site over the coming weeks. The firm is doing the design and engineering work for the project. As the letter states: "It will be necessary for personnel from GPD Group (i.e. surveyors, environmental personnel, soil boring crew) to obtain specific field data needed in connection with the proposed project on or near your property. Presently this work is scheduled to occur during the next few months. Please note that field personnel will not be able to give any definite information or answers to questions. The staff will simply be collecting information necessary for the development of the project."
The work crews have received strict instructions concerning the preservation of private property and public lands. If at any time property owners feel that GPD representatives have not given proper attention to private property, please notify Joshua Slaga at 330-572-3515 or email@example.com. Written comments may be mailed to:

To ensure the proposed project is viable and successful, the City of Galion is seeking comments from the public about the social, environmental, and economic impacts of this proposed project. Environmental impacts include those involving archeological, architectural and ecological resources, hazardous materials, and the general location of the project.
The preliminary design will be made public when available. A total of $2 million will be awarded for project construction in the summer of 2021.
