Columbia Gas will continue upgrading gas lines in Galion this summer in order to provide more reliable gas service. Both main gas lines and service lines will be replaced.
Columbia will need to excavate in streets and yards, move gas meters, and briefly turn off gas service to affected homes and businesses. Work will begin in late June and end in the fall. Residents and drivers should be prepared for temporary street closures and one lane streets.
Streets receiving this work include portions of: Church Street, Gill Avenue, North Union Street, Orange Street, Payne Avenue, and South Jefferson Street (see map).
Residents and businesses within the work area will receive additional information by mail. They should expect:
- Underground utilities marked with flags, stakes and temporary paint.
- Columbia Gas may schedule a time to enter your home or business to inspect sewer and gas lines.
- Gas meters may be moved.
- Driveways could be temporarily blocked.
- Door hangars placed at homes within the work area with updates.
The contractor for the project is Mid Ohio Pipeline. Drivers are reminded to approach construction zones with caution and follow any traffic signs or directions from the work crew. Do not park in marked construction zones.
Mid Ohio will also repair or replace anything which gets disturbed by the project, including streets, driveways, sidewalks, and yards.
For more information about this project, please call Columbia Gas directly at 440-242-7653. There is a public meeting scheduled for Tuesday, June 18, at 7 p.m. It will be held on the second floor of the city building.
