[ARCHIVED] COVID Relief Fund for Businesses Announced

The City of Galion has sponsored a COVID Relief Fund in order to assist local businesses as they reopen. Funds may be used for expenses incurred as a result of the COVID-19 health emergency, or for costs related to reopening and meeting new sanitation requirements.

Galion Mayor Tom O’Leary announced full details on the new program during a live stream video on May 15. “What we’re doing here in Galion is cutting against the grain, but I’m very much convinced that actions taken by the administration and city council will help the Galion area get back into operation,” O’Leary said.

There will be a maximum of $5,000 loaned per business. There is no interest and no repayments are necessary for the first 12 months after the loan is issued.

The program is only for existing businesses in Galion, as well as nonprofits and private social clubs. O’Leary emphasized startup funding will be especially necessary for those who did not receive any Federal assistance.

City Council unanimously approved legislation on March 12 to authorize the program and provide $190,000 toward the initiative. Loans will be administered by the Galion Port Authority under a special contract with the city.

O’Leary expects applications to open within the next 7-10 days, with minimal red tape for applicants.

Further details will be announced when they are available.
