[ARCHIVED] Census Takers Begin In-person Count

Representatives of the U.S. Census Bureau will begin canvassing communities across the country next week. This is to continue the count for the 2020 Census.

Galion’s current response rate is 64.1% from households responding by mail, by phone, or online. We are trying to beat our rate of 66.8% from the 2010 Census. Crawford County’s total response rate is 67.9%, and Ohio stands at 67.4%.

Data from the Census helps determine Congressional representation, and also how Federal funding is distributed to schools, hospitals, highways, and more.

Census takers are hired from local communities. The Census Bureau will provide face masks to census takers and requires that census takers wear a mask while conducting their work. They will follow CDC and local public health guidelines when they visit.
