Galion City Council held its first meeting of the year on Jan. 12 and continued the virtual format. Legislation for annual materials bidding was approved. This allows the city to bid for necessary supplies and equipment for all departments.

Two cleanup items for property acquisition related to the State Route 598 widening project were also approved. Last year, council approved several pieces of legislation for the project in order to ensure the right-of-way is cleared, and last night’s legislation made corrections to previous ordinances. The Ohio Department of Transportation intends to bid the project in July.

A lease with the Army Corps of Engineers was also renewed. The lease is for a precipitation station located at the Water Filtration Plant.

Heath Watkins was reappointed as a trustee for the Egbert M. Freese Foundation. He will serve a two-year term. Eric Gimbel and Patty Roston were both reappointed to the Design Review Board. Both will serve three-year terms.
