Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 9-15 and the Galion Fire and EMS Department is visiting local schools to educate children. Topics covered include fire safety basics like stop, drop and roll; have an escape plan at your home; don’t hide, go outside; and dialing 9-1-1. Firefighters also demonstrate the protective gear that they wear during real fires.
Children will also get to see a fire truck up close and receive a helmet and a packet with more information.
Fire Prevention Week was established in 1922 by the International Fire Marshals Association. It is the longest running public health and safety observance on record.
Remember to replace your smoke detector every ten years and test the battery often.
